The\u00a0 \u2018PARC\u2019<\/em> Community<\/strong>\u00a0is a community of growers with whom we work closely within the context of our “Cocoa Act 4<\/em>\u201d programme. The beans, which are the basis of our chocolate, come from this community.<\/p>\n

The ‘PARC<\/em>\u2019 Community, comprising some\u00a01,000 inhabitants<\/strong>, is located in\u00a0Ivory Coast<\/strong>, 60 km from San Pedro and 22 km from Gnity-Cailloux. Two ethnic groups are represented in the community: the\u00a0Mossi<\/strong>\u00a0(an ethnic group from Burkina Faso who speak M\u00f2or\u00e9) and the\u00a0Baoul\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0(an ethnic group from Ivory Coast who speak Baoul\u00e9).<\/p>\n

X<\/strong> Access to education<\/h3>\n

As the nearest school<\/strong>\u00a0is located 3-4 km away, children under 9 cannot go there alone. Consequently, a Franco-Arabic alternative \u201cschool\u201d has been in the village since 2018.<\/p>\n

There are 4 classes that accommodate approximately 100 children. Two voluntary, unqualified teachers are responsible for looking after the children and teaching the basics until such time that they can walk to the official school by themselves.<\/p>\n

There is no equipment available for the children (not even any chalk for the blackboard) and the classrooms are close to becoming unsafe for use\u2026<\/p>\n
